Attendance Procedures
Regular attendance helps students succeed at Fairmont Junior High. Being in class each day allows students to stay on track with learning, participate in activities, and build strong connections with teachers and peers.
Missing school can lead to gaps in understanding and added stress when trying to catch up. Consistent attendance also builds responsibility and good habits that support future success.
At Fairmont, every day counts.
-
- Parents/guardians must notify the Attendance Office each day a student is absent.
- Phone: 208-854-4794
- Email: amy.lindenberg@boiseschools.org
- If you are unable to reach staff directly, please leave a voicemail.
- Handwritten notes are not accepted.
- Parents/guardians must notify the Attendance Office each day a student is absent.
-
- Students arriving 20 minutes or more late to school will be marked absent.
- All full-day and partial-day absences must be excused by a parent/guardian within 48 hours via phone or email.
- Excused absences still count toward the school’s 90% attendance requirement, unless one of the following applies:
- Medical documentation is provided by a healthcare provider.
- Legal documentation is provided for a required court appearance.
The student is participating in a school-sponsored activity (e.g., field trips, performances, competitions, or district-sanctioned athletic events).
-
Fairmont operates as a closed campus, including during lunch. Students may not leave campus without an approved Permit to Leave (PTL).
- To obtain a PTL:
- Bring a note from a parent/guardian on the day of departure, or
- Have a parent/guardian call the office at least one hour in advance.
- Office staff will issue the PTL to the student.
Students who leave campus without a PTL will be marked truant and may receive disciplinary consequences, including detention.
- To obtain a PTL:
-
- A student is considered tardy if they are not in their classroom or assigned seat when the tardy bell rings.
- Tardies are not excusable, per district policy.
- Students arriving late must still check in at the Attendance Office before going to class.
-
A truancy is defined as an unexcused absence and includes:
- Leaving campus during or between classes without a Permit to Leave.
- Intentionally missing class or arriving more than 20 minutes late to avoid a tardy.
- Being on campus but not in the assigned classroom (e.g., loitering).
- Failure to provide parent/guardian notification within 48 hours of the absence.
